| Sasha was my first Rottweiler
that I raised from a puppy, she was
purchased for $450 from a BYB (Back Yard Breeder) here in Atlanta. At the
time I just wanted a Rottweiler puppy, and had no idea what a good Rottweiler was.
I wanted the biggest Rottweiler I could find. Little did I know that this
was not good for the genetics of the dog and that breeding this way would create
poor health. I had plans to breed Sasha because that's what I wanted to
get into.
Well when Sasha was 9 months
old, I was involved in a car accident while Sasha was in the car
with me and it was bad one. Sasha jumped out of the car
window and took off. I spent 7 days in the hospital and I
figured Sasha for dead. After calling everyone that I knew and
every animal control precinct in my area with no luck I assumed the
worst. On the 9th day after my accident I got a call and Sasha
had been found! She made her way 4 miles from the accident
site, and was found 1 block from my best friends house; one of which
she had been many times. She had a broken leg and had hobbled
onto a lady's porch, I was very pleased to know that she was alive!
After reuniting with Sasha I asked myself time and time again how
she survived for 9 days on her own with a broken leg and only 9
months old, I knew that this was a special dog! She spent a
lot of time going back and forth to the veterinarians office to make
sure her leg was ok. The leg healed itself but led to her
other leg having problems due to weight distribution. Sasha
had a lot of medical problems, and I'm sure that this was related to
the breeding that was implemented to obtain this type of size.
The breeder was just
in it for the money and didn't care what he produced although Sasha
had the absolute best aspects of the temperamental side of the
Rottweiler, she had fallen subject to very poor physical attributes
as you can see in the pictures. Sad part is, 10% of temperament is
genetics while the remaining 90% is in socialization and training.
I learned this from her as well as witnessing other dogs from her
siblings. Sasha passed away at age 5 on Halloween due poor intestinal conditions. She has influenced my
current mindset in breeding that I will only breed the healthiest and the most
physically fit Rottweilers that I can find! This is why I've search the globe looking
for the best lines that I can find, and will continue with Sasha demise on my
mind. I DO NOT, want anyone to go through what i had to go through! It is very hard to
lose a dog that you have grown to respect and love the way that I did with Sasha! I have included her pedigree sheet, which is probably one of the
worst you will ever see. Only two dogs were tested for OFA (Orthopedic
Foundation of Animals), dogs should
not be bred without these tests! I hope you enjoy Sasha photo album of Sasha and
you can really see the love in her eyes! |
